Refrigerant R290 Consumer Notice

Attention United States Customers:

In the United States, EPA regulations state that hydrocarbon refrigerants including Enviro-Safe R290 are not legal for use in a central residential or central commercial air conditioning system. Allowable uses can be determined by reviewing the regulations put forth on the EPA website.

R290 is a proposed EPA-acceptable substitute refrigerant under the SNAP program. The EPA has classified R290 as acceptable, subject to use conditions, in new retail food refrigerators and freezers (stand-alone units only). All federal, state, and EPA regulations must be followed. In accordance with EPA regulations at 40 CFR Part 82. (R-290 CAS #74-98-6).

In the United States it is illegal to use a hydrocarbon refrigerant as a substitute for a Class I or Class II ODS refrigerant for any end use other than industrial process refrigeration systems, or retail food refrigerators and freezers (stand-alone units only).
